Awareness through meditation and meditation through awareness

In this post, I will talk about the topic of awareness. This is a follow-up post to the “What is Meditation for me” entry from before, as one “goal” of meditation is to create awareness. Vice versa awareness will bring you into a state of meditation. As you see both topics come together and amplify each other.

What is Awareness?

Meditation means awareness. Whatsoever you do with awareness is meditation. The action is not the question but the quality you bring to your action. Whatever you do, remain alert and watchful. Do not move into a sleep-like state.

Watching is meditation. What you watch is irrelevant.

„Meditation means the capacity to get involved and yet remain unattached. “

–> this is the ultimate goal… to be able to go about your normal life with all its emotional ups and downs but keep the watcher/awareness always active and awake. This means no step can be taken without awareness. You are “the meditator in the market place” that is meditating 24 hours of the day (even when you are “asleep”).

When all activity has ceased and you simply are, “just being”, this is meditation.

Whenever you can find time for just being and drop all doing (no thinking or concentration either), even for a single moment and you are just at your center utterly relaxed, that is meditation.

The first is a relaxed state: no fight with the mind, no control of the mind, no concentration.

Second, just watching with a relaxed awareness whatever is going on, without any interference – just watching the mind, silently, without any judgement, any evaluation.

Three essential things: relaxation, watching, no judgement!

Anything that leads to yourself is meditation. And it is immensely significant to find your own meditation, because in the very finding you will experience great joy. The deeper you go into it, the happier you will feel – peaceful, more silent, more together, more dignified, more graceful.

You all know watching. It is just a question of changing the objects of watching. Bring them closer. Watch your body and you will be surprised.

This was just a short intro today and tomorrow I will write about how to bring awareness in our daily lifes! (to be continued…)

Namaste & so much love,

Cornelia
